Menopause Management

What is Menopause?

Menopause is often referred to as the ‘change of life’ because it marks the end of a woman’s reproductive life. Menopause literally means that a woman has had her last or final menstrual period.

Most women become menopausal between the ages of 45 and 60 with the average age for Australian and New Zealand women being 51 years. Each woman will experience her menopause in her own way. Many will have only minor discomfort, but others will experience a range of troubling symptoms. These symptoms are commonly short lived but, for some women, will persist for over a decade. Knowledge of the menopause and the symptoms is important to help you decide how best to manage your symptoms and maximise your quality of life.

Treatment Options

There are so many different ways to help manage and treat the signs and symptoms of menopause. There is no need to ‘put up with’ or ‘get through’ times of mood changes, vaginal dryness, mental fogginess and painful sex.

Treatment options include:

  • Vaginal estrogen creams
  • Oral estrogen and progesterone medication
  • Transdermal estrogen treatments (patches or gels)
  • Uterine Progesterone
  • Testosterone & DHEAS
  • Non-hormonal medications and supplementation
  • Vaginal Laser (Erbium Yag)
  • Vaginal Prolapse Surgery
  • Emsella Chair for Incontinence
  • Emsculpt for lax abdominal muscles

The Best option for you depends on your own specific symptoms in combination with your own medical history or risks.

Menopause

Menopausal symptoms fall into two major categories:

1. Hot Flushes

Able to be lessened with the non-hormonal medicine Promensil

2. Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)

Many women live with the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause without realising treatment is available.

Juliet is a new treatment,

Which is a gentle laser therapy (using what is called an Erbium Laser) that very effectively treats the vaginal symptoms of menopause, including:
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Irritation
  • Itching
  • Pain and discomfort during intercourse

The Juliet laser treatment

Is also suitable for women experiencing any of these symptoms at any age before menopause. Women who have had, or who are at risk of, breast cancer can seek relief of these symptoms without the need for hormone replacement therapy.

The single treatment takes less than 20 minutes and is performed by Dr Jessup in our private treatment room. The procedure does not require anaesthesia – it is fast, painless and discreet with very low risk of side effects and minimal downtime. The results are generally immediate and life-changing.

Vaginal laser rejuvenation is a new and exciting way of restoring tissue health to reverse the effects of aging with no surgery.
